REST versus SOAP

SOAP – Simple Object Access Protocol

SOAP is a method of transferring messages, or small amounts of information, over the Internet.

These are formatted in XML and typically sent using HTTP.

REST – Representational State Transfer

REST is a method of transferring messages over the Internet and it doesn’t have obtrusive standards defined.

These are formatted in XML, JSON, or plain text and typically sent using HTTP.
